WordPress.com News

Everyone loves widgets right? They allow you to add neat features to your blog and really make it your own. They are universal, because you can use them on all different themes, so no matter which theme you’ve used to represent your own personal style, widgets can help you round out the features that make your blog tick. Some of WordPress.com’s newer features like Following and Liking have needed some widget-love, so we’ve whipped up a few new ones to help you out. All of these widgets can be used immediately and added to one of your sidebars under Appearance → Widgets.

Enable Xbox Companion on Windows 8

One of the greatest Windows 8 features is the OS’s integration with Xbox. Even though this integration is minimal at the moment, you can definitely see where Microsoft is going to take it: allowing you to play Xbox games from the console on the PC, pausing and resuming, etc. Those features may not be there yet, but there are still some fun things you can do like control the Xbox using your PC. Fortunately, connecting your console to your notebook is easy.

Before you begin, make sure you are logged in to your Windows 8 PC with the same Windows Live account that you use on your Xbox and that both your Xbox and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  1. Launch Xbox Companion from the Metro start screen.
  2. Turn on your Xbox Console.
  3. Go to Settings > System > Console Settings.
  4. Select Xbox Companion.
  5. Change the Xbox Companion settings to Available.
  6. On your PC, click Connect

2012 is a grand year for PlayStation 3 gamers. The console, which debuted at an incredible $499 to $599 (depending on storage capacity) with a weak initial library, has transformed into a must-have machine thanks to an attractive $249 price point, an integrated Blu-ray player, and a rich video game library that contains the best exclusive titles in the biz.

Although many of the best PS3 games are cross-platform games that are also available on the PC and Xbox 360—Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim—but the PS3 has a handful of console exclusives that make the system stand out from its competitors such as Starhawk, Twisted Metal, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

The games in this feature are distributed on physical discs, but PS3—like the Xbox 360 and PC—has a deep digital download library. The PlayStation Network (PSN) is where you can purchase new games such as the emotion-stirring Journey through your console for typically $15 or less; if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber ($17.99 for three months, $49.99 for a year) you can purchase select games at a discount, download full game trials, and get early access to demos and betas—not to mention additional content that can extend the life of many games.

If you’re ready to PS3 game, check out the ten titles in our slideshow, which cover the action, racing, fighting, FPS, and RPG titles that will be red hot throughout 2012. Think that we’ve overlooked a hot top-ten worthy title? Sound off in the comment section below and let us know your top PS3 games
